If you have ever stumbled across an amazing Chinese web novel only to hit a wall because it is not available in English, you are not alone. Millions of readers face this problem every day. The story you want to read exists, but it is locked behind a language you do not understand.

That is why we built TeaNovel.

What Is TeaNovel?

TeaNovel is an AI-powered translation platform designed specifically for Chinese web novel fans. Our current public product helps English readers access Chinese web novels without waiting for official translations. Japanese and Korean support remain on the roadmap.

Our goal is simple: let you read the stories you want, when you want them.

The platform lives at read.teanovel.com and works alongside our Chrome browser extension. Together, they create a seamless workflow from discovery to translation to reading.

The Problem We Are Solving

Web novels are booming globally. Titles like The King's Avatar, Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation, and Coiling Dragon started as Chinese web novels before gaining massive international followings. But for every series that gets an official English release, dozens more remain stuck in their original language.

Fans have a few options, none of them great:

  • Wait years for an official translation that may never come
  • Rely on fan translations that can be inconsistent or abandoned
  • Learn Chinese (a multi-year commitment)

We think there should be a better way. So we built one.

How It Works

TeaNovel follows a three-step workflow that keeps things simple.

Step 1: Capture

Our Chrome browser extension works with supported source sites so you can import novels into your TeaNovel account without manual copy-paste.

No copy-pasting. No manual formatting. Paste a novel URL into the SmartImporter on your dashboard, and the extension handles the supported-site capture in the background.

We currently support JJWXC, Qidian, QDMM, Fanqie, Qimao, Zongheng, and SFACG (free chapters only). Pro accounts can also upload a supported text EPUB they own.

Step 2: Translate

Once a chapter is captured, our AI translation engine goes to work. We use advanced language models optimized for fiction and web novels, with special attention to:

  • Dialogue and narration balance: Chinese web novels have a distinct voice, and our models preserve that.
  • Honorifics and cultural terms: We handle the nuances that make web novels feel authentic.
  • Consistency: Our terminology management system remembers character names and terms across chapters.

You can translate chapters one at a time on the Free plan, or queue multiple chapters on Starter and Pro.

TeaNovel checks for a reusable translation only after verifying your access to the chapter. A cache hit can avoid another model run; it does not give you access to another reader's private bookshelf or source text. Review the credit decision shown by your translation entry point.

Step 3: Read

Translated chapters open in our built-in reader. It is designed for long-form reading with:

  • Clean, distraction-free typography
  • Customizable font sizes and themes
  • Chapter navigation and progress tracking
  • Cross-device sync so you can pick up where you left off

The reader works on desktop and mobile, so your novels travel with you.

Features That Make a Difference

Terminology Management

Chinese web novels are full of recurring names, places, and made-up terms. Get these wrong, and the reading experience falls apart.

TeaNovel includes a terminology system powered by Named Entity Recognition (NER). Our AI automatically identifies and tracks proper nouns throughout a novel, and you can review terminology entries to understand how key terms are being handled across chapters.

This matters for series with dozens of characters, magic systems with unique vocabulary, and world-building that relies on specific terminology.

Your Private Bookshelf

Your imported novels, source chapters, translations, and reading history belong in your private account. TeaNovel does not provide a public catalog of user books. Supported-site import requires the desktop extension and lawful source access; EPUB upload is a separate Pro feature.

Open your imported books on desktop or mobile with the same account. The getting-started guide explains the setup.

Flexible Credit System

We use a credit-based system that scales with how much you read. Credits are consumed based on Chinese source text length and character count:

  • Chinese: 1 credit per 100 source characters, rounded up per chapter, with a minimum of 1 credit

Japanese and Korean credit rates will be announced when those languages launch.

Plans for Every Reader

TeaNovel offers three tiers to match how you use the platform.

Free gives you 1,000 credits per month, for single-chapter translation.

Starter at $4.99 per month includes 10,000 credits and unlocks batch translation for multiple chapters.

Pro at $14.99 per month provides 50,000 credits, text EPUB upload, and TXT/EPUB export for offline reading.

All plans share the same translation quality. The difference is volume and convenience features. Check out our pricing page for full details.

If you run out of credits, you can purchase more at $1.99 for 2,000 credits. Purchased credits never expire.

Current Product Scope

TeaNovel currently provides a personal translation and reading workflow, a desktop extension, and public Blog and Docs. Earlier ideas for a novel index or website-building service are not current product capabilities or delivery promises. Use the overview for supported workflows.
