Reading Modes, Themes & Typography
TeaNovel's reader lets you customize your reading experience with adjustable typography and layout settings. These display preferences are currently saved in your browser on each device.
Accessing reading settings
Open Reading Settings from the reader toolbar. On desktop, click the gear on the right-side toolbar. On mobile, open the bottom toolbar menu and choose Reading settings.
Font size
| Setting | Range | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Font size | 14px – 28px | 18px |
Drag the slider to adjust. Larger fonts reduce eye strain during long reading sessions. Smaller fonts show more content per screen.
Line height
| Setting | Range | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Line height | 1.4 – 2.3 | 1.8 |
Line height controls the vertical space between lines of text. Higher values create more breathing room, which is easier to read for dense or technical translations.
Content width
| Setting | Range | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Content width | 560px – 920px | 720px |
Narrower widths keep line lengths short, making it easier to track from line to line. Wider widths are better for large screens where you want to fill more of the viewport.
The reading-width slider is available on desktop. On mobile, the reader adapts to the screen width.
Rhythm mode
Rhythm Mode focuses the paragraph nearest your reading position and dims other paragraphs after scrolling stops. Turn it off to keep all paragraphs at normal emphasis.
Themes
Three theme options are available:
- Light — White background with dark text
- Dark — Dark background with light text
- System — Automatically matches your OS setting
Switch themes from the command palette by searching for "theme", or from Settings → Appearance in the main app. Theme selection is separate from the reader's typography settings.
Settings storage
Your reading preferences are currently stored locally in the browser where you set them. If you switch devices or browsers, you may need to adjust them again.
Recommended setups
Long reading sessions: Font size 20px, line height 2.0, width 580px. Optimized for minimal eye strain.
Quick scanning: Font size 16px, line height 1.6, width 880px. Shows more content per screen for skimming through chapters.
Mobile reading: The reader adapts to your screen width automatically. Use a slightly larger font size (20-22px) for comfortable reading on smaller screens.
